Calistoga is in the spotlight this year thanks to the efforts of Mayor Chris Canning, the City of Calistoga, the owners of Brannan Cottage Inn, the Sharpsteen Museum, and community members for their on-going efforts to preserve Calistoga’s cultural heritage. Napa County Landmarks is in the process of 5 National Register Nominations that include: Yountville Town Hall, Freemark Abbey Winery, Nichelini Homestead Cabin, JC Weinberger Winery, and the Cayetano Juarez Adobe. These nominations are currently undergoing review by the California State Historic Resource Commission. Read more about what is happening now!
NCL is also supporting several local City of Napa Mills Act properties that will be revealed in 2015. The Mills Act provides an up to 50% reduction in property taxes in exchange for the rehabilitation, preservation, and long-term maintenance of historic buildings. Each year, Napa County Landmarks has used its list of Ten Threatened Treasures to raise awareness about the threats facing some of the county’s important historic resources. The 2014 list included the Barnett House and the Pope Valley Store, among other endangered historic properties. The 2015 list of Ten Threatened Treasures will focus on properties around the Calistoga area, and will be unveiled on January 30.
