Fuller Park Walking Tour

Date:
Saturday, February 4, 2012 - 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Who was C.H. Fuller and why was a park named in his honor? Why did the ladies of the New Century Club petition the City Council to “stop the slaughter” in the park? What resident in the area wrote 465 novels?  What famous Napa architect designed many Victorian houses but built his own house in this neighborhood in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright?

The answers will be uncovered as we tour the Fuller Park area, comprising more than 150 years of architectural and historical diversity in the residences adjacent to the tree shaded glen of this park. In 1997 the Fuller Park Area was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, the second largest historic district in California. This area is where Napa’s first suburbanites – merchants, lawyers, contractors – built their homes and made their statements in architectural styles.

The tour will meet at 9:45am at the northwest corner of Fuller Park, at Jefferson and Oak Streets.

Docents: Tom and Susan Kennelly have been Napa residents and Landmarks members for 17 years. Tom, a former criminal trial lawyer in Washington, DC, has been leading this tour since 1998. Susan is a former Landmarks board member.
