Hatt Building
Constructed by river captain Albert Hatt in the early 1880s as a grain warehouse, the Hatt building once had a roller rink and basketball court upstairs. Originally part of a bustling industrial neighborhood centered on the Napa River, the Hatt building is the most notable building that remains from Napa's days as a manufacturing hub. Its brick parapet is remarkably unaltered, and it looks much as it must have in Captain Hatt's day. Restored and repurposed in the 1990s as an Inn, owner Harry Price and partners were able to retain the building's look and feel, and even preserved its old grain silos. Currently home to Napa River Inn and several popular eateries, the Hatt Building is a successful adaptive re-use. This building exemplifies the "win-win" historic preservation Napa County Landmarks promotes - the building retained its unique attributes and historic charm while being transformed to a new economic use.
