Franklin Station Post Office
Napa's Historic Downtown Post Office was designed by architect William Corlett and constructed in 1932-33. Like many communities during the Great Depression, Napa was the recipient of federal aid in the form of Works Progress Administration building projects, including this Post Office. The Art Deco-style brick building features grooved pilasters between massive vertical windows. Marble wainscoting, decorative stars on the ceiling, and colorful terrazo floors add grandeur to the interior of the Post Office. One of the most interesting features of this building is the cow and ram's heads motif on its terra cotta cornice. The Post Office has retained its original splendor despite a 1965 renovation, and is still in regular use.
