WALKING TOUR
Each spring through fall, Napa County Landmarks offers sidewalk tours of historic neighborhoods in Calistoga, St. Helena, Yountville and Napa. Each annual schedule rotates tours of Calistoga's Pioneer Park and Downtown Spa District; St. Helena's Historic Downtown National Register District and Oak Avenue within the Spring District; Yountville's National Register sites, including the historic Groezinger Winery (now known as Vintage 1870); and many historic Napa neighborhoods. Perhaps the most popular Napa tour is the June visit to Tulocay Cemetery, a rocky outpost of an old Spanish land grant that now is the final resting place of approximately 65,000 souls, some of them famous or infamous, but all integral to Napa's development and continued prosperity today. The Tulocay tour varies each year. Other Napa tours that rotate in and out of the annual schedule include various parts of the National Register of Historic Places-listed Napa Abajo/Fuller Park District; historic First Street; historic Calistoga Avenue; the "Mansion District;" and Main Street/Napa River.
Tours are in continual development. There are no advance reservations for these tours, except when noted. Most start at 9:45 AM on specific Saturdays and run an average of 90 minutes. Prices are discounted for Landmarks' members. Napa County Landmarks also sells a foldout Historic Walking Tours of Napa booklet, complete with four suggested self-guided walks, and illustrated by the late Earl Thollander. To obtain your $10 copy, visit Landmarks at 1219 First Street, in the Goodman Library in downtown Napa, or send a SASE and check to Landmarks to receive a copy by mail.

Third Street Bridge, corner of Third St. and Soscol Ave., Napa
Just to the east of Downtown and the Napa River lies the East Napa neighborhood, old Napa’s “Little Italy”. It has been home to many uses in its history, including a Mexican rancho, a riverside industrial district, a working-class Italian neighborhood, and Napa’s 20th century auto row. The neighborhood is still vibrant today, with charming historic cottages standing side-by-side with the modern landmark The Oxbow School.
Napa County Landmarks and the Napa County Historical Society invite you to explore the area with Cindy Watter on Sat. August 7th. The two-hour tour starts at 10 a.m. on the Third Street Bridge. Cindy will lead attendees through East Napa, highlighting the architectural and historical treasures of the area, and ending at the Oxbow Market. Light refreshments provided.
Reservations are strongly encouraged.
